About Archeology on the Hill Walking Tour
Talbot County's history is long and deep, and much remains to be explored. Come take a walking tour into The Hill, a historic integrated neighborhood in Easton, Maryland, that has hosted a community of free African Americans since the eighteenth century. More than fifty years before Emancipation, this community came together with white neighbors to challenge inequality and create opportunities. That effort continues today.
For the past several years, The Hill Community Project, in partnership with Historic Easton, Inc., the East End Neighborhood Association, Talbot County, and the State of Maryland, has been documenting, preserving, and sharing this important history through land records, genealogy, oral history, archaeology, architecture, and preservation. This self-guided walking tour will allow you to see the stories we've unearthed so far.
