A troupe of acrobats on tour from China will be the starring act at the 3rd Annual Lunar New Year celebration in Easton on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. The performance will highlight the Eastern Shore’s largest celebration of the Asian holiday recognized by millions of people from around the world as Chinese New Year. Held at the Country School Field House, the celebration will also feature a sampling of foods from China, Japan, Vietnam and Korea; demonstrations of Asian arts, music, craft projects, a photo booth and face painting.
This year will open with an informal Chinese New Year parade. All children are invited to participate by making a lantern or kite upon arrival and then join the parade. Doors open at 2, the parade through the field house will be held around 2:15 and then the acrobats will take to the stage at 2:30.
This is the Year of the Monkey, one of the 12 auspicious animals recognized in the Chinese zodiac. Lunar New Year officially begins on February 8, 2016 and generally lasts a week.
The Friends of Lunar New Year hope the event will promote a deeper understanding of cultural diversity in our community and, at the same time, cultivate an appreciation of the arts in Asia in a family-friendly and fun atmosphere.
