Milk Carton Kids

May 22, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

“A sweetly dazzling variation on close-harmony vocals”- New York Times

Monterey is The Milk Carton Kids third album and the follow-up to their 2013 breakthrough The Ash & Clay.

The two years in between have been significant ones for the band, with a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album and winning Group of the Year at the 2014 Americana Music Awards.

Their 55-city North American tour in 2014 sold out months in advance and their standout performances and interviews in the Coen Brothers and T Bone Burnett’s concert documentary Another Day/Another Time have brought the duo its widest audience yet. Everyone from Garrison Keillor to T Bone Burnett to Billy Bragg have hailed the duo’s importance among a group of new folk bands, both expanding and contradicting the rich tradition that precedes them.

And 2016 looks even more promising with concerts scheduled with the Avett Brothers and critics raving about Monterey:

The splendor of their high-lonesome harmonies, and the way their guitars entwine and frame the songs so beautifully. That’s enough to cast a spell. The Boston Globe.

The duo’s sound feels lighter and looser than ever, sacrificing the tiniest bit of pristineness for a much-needed note of softly scuffed-up grace. NPR
