Located in the historic district in Easton, the Fountain House dominates the street with its elegant balcony and assertive architecture, reflecting the prosperity and influence of its owner, Alexander Washington Fountain, who was a merchant in the 1800s. He purchased the lot from Reuben Tharp for $200, who in turn had purchased it from John Leeds Kerr, who was an attorney, U.S. Senator and commanded local militia during the War of 1812. The house is notable as it is in nearly original condition, save for the dormer windows added to the attic and the second floor balcony in 1914, along with a few smaller additions to the rear. There are Fountain and Tharp descendants still in the area, and the Leeds and Kerr families go back to the earliest days of the young republic - there are notable family estates for the Leeds in Talbot County and the Kerr name is well known on the Eastern Shore of Virginia - the Onancock plantation (Kerr Place) is now the home of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society. ⚓️

The rural Methodist Church located on the quiet banks of the lake at Wye Mills is the second church to occupy this site - the property was deeded to the church in 1795, but church records report a meeting house here six years prior to that date. The land was donated by William Hindman, owner of Wilton Plantation. The original chapel had been visited by both Bishop Francis Asbury and the Reverend Richard Whatcoat - two early ministers of the Methodist faith in North America who each have had multiple churches established in their names. The church still holds services and is a pleasant sight in this old mill town. ⚓️
