In Easton
Located at the Tidewater Inn in the heart of downtown Easton, Hunter’s Tavern is the spot to take mom for an elegant dining experience. Their special brunch menu offers choices such as Maryland Crab Soup, Eggs Chesapeake with spinach and crab meat, and Blackened Salmon. Request to be seated outside for a view of downtown Easton all dressed up for spring.
Scossa’s fresh, made-in-house pastas and sauces accompany their fabulous wine list. When making your reservation, request a seat outside for a view of downtown Easton’s beautiful old court house and the Frederick Douglass statue.
At the “t” of Royal Oak and Bellevue Roads stands a building harkening back to a bygone era. Inside, you’ll find the perfect spot for delicious tea inspired cuisine for dinner or weekend brunch. They are well stocked with fresh loose leaf tea, spirited tea inspired drinks, and a fabulous wine list.
Hint: Things to Do
See the current exhibition at the Academy Art Museum, take the Frederick Douglass Driving Tour, or tour The Hill Community, a neighborhood of Easton that’s been home to free African-Americans since the 1780’s.
In Oxford
The Scottish Highland Creamery is a local secret we like to share. Their small-batch, unique flavored ice creams are something to write home about. For Mother’s Day, they’ll be serving some special flavors just for mom. Check their Facebook page for this year’s special scoops!
Hint: Things to Do
Stroll over to Oxford Town Park along the Tred Avon River and enjoy the tide pool and small beach. Peruse the shelves and treat mom to her next mystery novel at Mystery Loves Company Booksellers, or hop in the car and enjoy a ride across the river on the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry.
In St. Michaels
Mom can order the Famous Galley Glazer with fried egg, cheddar, bacon or sausage inside a warm glazed donut, yum! Pair it with a Bloody Mary garnished with Old Bay, or The Galley’s Bottomless Mimosas.
Named after the chef’s daughter, Cora’s is a great spot to stop after an afternoon of shopping in St. Michaels. Mom will enjoy the sounds of live music, as well as the menu, which was inspired by the owner’s love of the bay and local seafood.
Take your mom to paradise (without a passport) at Foxy’s Harbor Grille, located in the St. Michaels Marina. They live on island time here, and mom can join in with a selection from 14 Crushes, fizzy adult beverages using fresh juices and flavored vodkas, and lots of seafood choices.
Enjoy an unforgettable Mother’s Day amidst the beauty of the Miles River and the enchanting sounds of music at the Inn at Perry Cabin.
Hint: Things to Do
Book a cruise on the Patriot Narrated Historical Cruises, visit the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, stop in Maryland’s oldest distillery at Lyon Rum, or spend the afternoon enjoying the mile-long shopping of Talbot Street.
On Tilghman Island
The quintessential small town eatery, Two if by Sea’s chef serves up a tasty brunch with dishes such as Crabbie Eggs Benedict with, you guessed it, crab; Croque Monsieur with French toast, ham, Swiss, bacon, gravy, and a fried egg; and an Island favorite, Rockfish Salad.
The Wylder Hotel’s restaurant, Tickler’s offers a menu highlighting the freshest local produce, in a relaxed environment with both indoor and outdoor seating available, all served with waterfront views of the Chesapeake Bay.
Hint: Things to Do
Take selfies at Tilghman Island’s public art, the Tilghman’s Pride Mural and Post Office mosaic mural. Visit the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum for a glimpse of the fisherman’s way of life.
In Trappe
Venture to the southern tip of Talbot County for a quiet respite. Arrive at The Coffee Trappe before 11 a.m. for their signature Hot Dogs & Eggs and after 11 a.m. order the Crab & Avocado Wrap, jumbo lump crab, smoked corn, romaine lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo, all on a soft flour tortilla. And don’t forget the coffee!
Hint: Things to Do
Grab a cup to go and walk Trappe’s historic Main Street, ending at the Scotts United Methodist Church on the southern edge of town. Outside the church, a Civil War Trails sign shares the story of Nathaniel (Nace) Hopkins, founder of Trappe’s Emancipation Day Celebration in 1867.
