Every year, the streets of downtown Easton and St. Michaels come alive with green, music, laughter, and community spirit as residents and visitors alike gather for St. Patrick’s Day festivities. It’s a beloved local tradition that offers a fun, lively way to ring in spring and celebrate Irish heritage.

Downtown Easton’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The parade kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on March 17 in downtown Easton. The route typically includes the historic streets around Washington, Dover, Harrison, and Goldsborough. The parade features more than 40 floats, marching bands, decorated golf cars, and classic cars.
Immediately following the parade, the lively St. Patrick’s Day Potato Race take place on Washington Street (near the Talbot County Courthouse). Teams of friends, families, or co-workers balance a potato on a wooden spoon in a relay race during this crowd favorite tradition.
If you want to join in (either the parade or the potato race), be sure to register early as spaces are limited.
St. Michaels Shopping Cart Races
A long-standing St. Patrick’s Day tradition, the St. Patrick’s Day Shopping Cart Races hosted by Carpenter Street Saloon, ends the day’s festivities. The infamous races take are scheduled for 11 p.m. on Talbot Street, directly in front of the saloon.

Come early. The streets in downtown Easton begin closing around 5:00 p.m. for the parade, so consider grabbing a late lunch or early dinner so you’ll be ready to snag a good viewing spot afterwards.

Stick around after the parade. The Potato Race is a highlight — and a great photo op, so stick around Easton after the parade before heading to St. Michaels for the shopping cart races.

Best for. While events in downtown Easton are family-friendly, the shopping cart races are best suited for adults.
