We visited the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and it’s easily one of the best stops in the area. The grounds are sprawling and beautiful, with so much to see and do that you can easily spend several hours exploring. There are tons of interactive and hands-on exhibits, which make it engaging for all ages, and the views of the bay throughout the property are really nice. There’s a great mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits, including historic boats and workboats you can walk onto, a working boatyard where you can see restoration projects in progress, and the iconic Hooper Strait Lighthouse you can climb and explore. You’ll also find exhibits on crabbing, oystering, and the history of the Chesapeake Bay’s maritime industry, along with displays on navigation, tools, and life on the water. The entire place is very well maintained and thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of spots to stop, relax, and take in the scenery. Overall, a really enjoyable and informative experience, definitely worth visiting! Really the only downside was the gift shop, the items were beautiful and great quality, however, they were all extremely overpriced even for the area.

Fabulous museum about life on the Chesapeake Bay. They cover everything from boat building and restoration to oystering to recreation. As it was only just open there were several buildings not available for public viewing. The lighthouse is a must Fascinating to see where someone lived perched 20 feet above the bay and 2 miles out in the weather. They hold events here as well with a pre-wedding get together as well as a salsa dance class. The special Frederick Douglass exhibit is not to be missed.

The Maritime Museum is such an interesting place to visit! We visited for a number of years at the old location, and we love all the updates at the new. The visitor center entrance building has great bathrooms and the new gift shop? Chef's kiss! We picked up a number of things for my toddler that she was interested in, including the cute Chadwick the Crab books. You can really tell the care that has gone into the exhibits, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable. Hopefully we can do one of the fun day long experiences working on a project there in the future! Definitely worth a stop if you're in St Michael's!

We had heard this museum was a must see and it didn't disappoint. One fee for a two-day ticket that was not expensive. There is a lot of area to cover, so it was nice to know we could come back. We visited in October so it was not crowded. We spoke with a very friendly painter who had been working on one of the boat and he told us a bit more about the place. Plenty of self-guided areas and exhibits. We enjoyed the ship building work – it was interesting to see the process step as well as the volume of lumber stocked and waiting to be used. Beautiful views from the lighthouse. I enjoyed walking among and reading about the exhibit boats they had on display, each with a detailed history of ownership and uses over time. Amazing. The collection of outboards showed the changes over time – I can't imaging heading out into the sea with one of those old-timers even when it was brand new. Definitely worth the time and money.
