Talbot Humane will host Paws Under the Big Top on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7894 Ocean Gateway in Easton. The free event combines the organization’s annual adoptathon with Halloween Trunk or Treat and a day of family activities.

Guests can meet adoptable animals from Talbot Humane and rescue partners Kitty Kat Kottage, Hill Hounds Rescue & Animal Sanctuary, Saving Future Feral Cats, ACSKC, Caroline County Humane Society, and Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center. Community supporters will also join the event to share resources available in Talbot County.

The afternoon will feature a bounce house, face painting, temporary tattoos, pumpkin painting, food trucks, music from DJ Tank, and decorated trunks offering treats. Children and adults are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, but costumes are not required.

“Bringing our rescue partners together gives people the chance to meet more animals and talk directly with the people who know them best,” said Talbot Humane Executive Director Patty Crankshaw-Quimby, CAWA. “The celebration is fun, but the conversations about a pet’s needs and a family’s expectations are what help build lasting matches.”

Admission is free, and Talbot Humane will waive adoption fees for its animals during the event. Standard adoption policies still apply. Each participating rescue or humane society has its own adoption process.

Talbot Humane encourages prospective adopters to apply online before the event. Approved applications remain valid for up to six months, and preapproved applicants will be served before same-day applicants.

Visitors seeking a same-day adoption of a Talbot Humane animal should bring a driver’s license or state-issued ID, current rabies vaccination records for all pets in their household, and, if they rent, a copy of their current lease that includes the pet policy.

“We want families to come enjoy the day, whether they are ready to adopt or simply want to learn more,” Crankshaw-Quimby said. “For anyone hoping to take a pet home, applying in advance is the best way to be prepared.”
